DENDROCLIM2002: A C++ program for statistical calibration of climate signals in tree-ring chronologies
نویسندگان
چکیده
Tree-ring chronologies are often calibrated against instrumental climate records using correlation and response functions. DENDROCLIM2002 uses bootstrapped confidence intervals to estimate the significance of both correlation and response function coefficients. Input and output file selection, as well as analytical options, are chosen from a userfriendly GUI. Final results are saved in ASCII format, and are plotted on screen using color-coded symbols. DENDROCLIM2002 is an extension of existing task-specific software, which is mostly MS-DOS based, and of available user-supplied code for statistical packages, such as SAS. In addition, DENDROCLIM2002 incorporates the ability to test for temporal changes of dendroclimatic relationships by means of evolutionary and moving intervals. This simple approach allows for a complete, dynamical representation of statistical relationships between climate and tree growth. An example using published dendroclimatic data is used to illustrate the analytical and graphical capabilities of the software. r 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Response of conifers to UV-B and climate in mountain areas
The present study was focused to examine the combined effects of climate and ultraviolet-B radiation on conifer tree-ring density. Statistical methods were employed to extract tree responses in annual ring density and to identify functional relationship in trees when the level of ultraviolet-B radiation changes regardless of climate variations. In this study, the consideration was given to the ...
متن کاملLong range correlations in tree ring chronologies of the USA: Variation within and across species
[1] Tree ring width data are among the best proxies for reconstructing past temperature and precipitation records. The discovery of fractal scaling and long-memory in meteorological and hydrological signals motivates us to investigate such properties in tree ring chronologies. Detrended fluctuation analysis and adaptive fractal analysis are utilized to estimate the Hurst parameter values of 697...
متن کاملExtracting coherent tree-ring climatic signals across spatial scales from extensive forest inventory data
Increasing access to extensively replicated and broadly distributed tree-ring collections has led to a greater use of these large data sets to investigate climate forcing on tree growth. However, the number of chronologies added to large accessible databases is declining and few are updated, while chronologies are often sparsely distributed and are more representative of marginal growing enviro...
متن کاملWood properties in a long-lived conifer reveal strong climate signals where ring-width series do not.
Although tree-ring-width chronologies have been widely used for temperature reconstructions, there are many sites around the world at which there is little evidence of a clear climate signal in the ring-width chronologies. This is the case with the long-lived conifer Huon pine (Lagarostrobos franklinii (Hook. F.) Quinn), endemic to Tasmania, Australia, when the species grows at low elevation. I...
متن کاملGrowth responses to climate in a multi-species tree-ring network in the Western Carpathian Tatra Mountains, Poland and Slovakia.
We analyzed growth responses to climate of 24 tree-ring width and four maximum latewood density chronologies from the greater Tatra region in Poland and Slovakia. This network comprises 1183 ring-width and 153 density measurement series from four conifer species (Picea abies (L.) Karst., Larix decidua Mill., Abies alba (L.) Karst., and Pinus mugo (L.)) between 800 and 1550 m a.s.l. Individual s...
